Special applications
Sound insulating – acoustic boards
Noise stops in the porous part of the grains. Noise is reduced by converting the energy of the sound into heat on the surface of the grains. Both organic (epoxy resin) and inorganic (e.g. waterglass) binders can be used.
Aggregate – mixed with various organic materials
- Polymer concrete
- Synthetic resin binders: e.g. epoxy resin, polyurethane, or acrylate binders can be used to produce e.g.
- kitchen worktops
- ship hulls
- wind wheel blades
- marble stair bases
